Core Values

The Bible is a collection of smaller books written over thousands of years by persons seeking to know and serve the divine. In both the Hebrew and Greek testaments there are remarkable, life-giving stories and challenging, sometimes competing, truths. We are convinced it is a life-giving book, that it reveals a good and loving God, and that it calls us to a life together as a community of faith.

At Berea Mennonite Church, we read the Bible carefully and we consider it holy scripture. We believe it contains many revelations and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is chief among those. But we do not presume to know what the Bible means. We are convinced that God is still speaking today and to people like us just as God has in the past, wo we are always searching for what the scriptures mean to ourselves and our community that day. For that reason, our congregation often gathers to ask four simple questions:

What does this text tell us about people?
What does this text tell us about the relationship between God and people?
How does this text demand the we change?

We invite you to do the same and offer some of our favorite texts here.
